Sigrid
Piroch is an internationally known textile expert who travels frequently
to teach a wide variety of textile topics
on weaving, spinning and computer textile design. She has
taught for over 70 museums, craft schools, studios, colleges,
conferences, polytechnics and guilds in
11 countries, more than 40 US states and various Canadian provinces.

In 2002 Sigrid taught and toured Thailand and
Laos through the US State Department and the US Embassies in both
countries. In Bangkok she presented "Patterns which Connect" for the
Textile Conservation and Cultural Preservation Conference" at the
Siam Society under royal patronage, and then for the
National Museum of Thailand. She gave 11
presentations in 4 cities, in Vientiane and Luang Prabang/Laos, Chiang Mai
and Bangkok/Thailand. Her topics included "American Historic Textiles",
especially featuring handwoven coverlets; "Conservation: Caring for your
Textile Collection" in Tropical Rain Forest regions, and "Textile
Analysis: Discovery and Documentation", including hands-on workshops.

In 1995 she traveled over
30,000 miles to teach in Australia/Tasmania and New Zealand giving 33
seminars and workshops in 13 weeks on many varied subjects -- she was the
only foreign tutor for National Conferences in both Australia and New
Zealand; workshops included, among others, The
Otago Polytechnic School of Art in Dunedin, NZ and The International
Weaving School in Picton, NZ.

In 1994 Sigrid
taught, researched and toured England, the
Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden and Slovakia giving workshops for craft
centers, guilds and museum staff on "Computer Textile Design" including,
among others, the Swedish Handicrafts Society in Stockholm
Sweden and The Slovak National Museum in Martin Slovakia
.

In 1988 she toured and taught for 7
weeks in the Northwest, Canada and Washington/Oregon on a variety of
topics.

Some US billets have included: the Marshfield School of Weaving in VT,
Harrisville Designs in NH, Marymount
College in NY, Wyoming Museum in PA,
the Rob Roy Tavern School of Weaving in PA,
The Handweaving Museum and Arts Center in NY, the Southwest Craft
Center in TX... and others throughout the country. |
